Map of the City is a double-screen video installation that was created from thousands of photograph. This work, made to accompany the installation, distills its thematic preoccupations into a series of ten images. The project was initiated during a six-month residency in Rome, and sees the city as a textual environment that requires both readers and writers: the city-as-library, the building-as-book. The city is depicted as an accumulation of gestures and layers that outstrips individual comprehension, and highlights the importance of art as a means to understanding the timeless immensity of human experience.
